Dogs

Kate was adopted in January of 2000 from the El Cajon Animal Shelter. She must have been at least three at time time, but her actual age is a mystery. But now Kate is The Bionic Dog, as she has had a bicep tendon release on each front leg as well as two (cementless) total hip replacements in the rear. She is sweet, enthusiastic, but a bit dumb. Abby was adopted in July of 2000 from the Los Angeles German Shepherd Rescue at about the age of three. She is very smart and loyal, although easily made anxious and worried. Each dog weighs about 90 pounds, most of it muscle, so burglars beware!

Cats

I found Oliver in our barn in January 2002, likely dumped off by some miserable bastard. He was about a year old at the time. He's playful, skittish, and stunningly beautiful. Oliver was joined by Elliot in March 2003, a delightfully playful, friendly, and very dominant kitten. Unfortunately, Elliot has a heart defect which will surely shorten his life, but we liked him well enough to adopt him regardless.

Horses

Tara is a 16.2 hand chestnut Thoroughbred mare. She's attractive, athletic, well-mannered, but sometimes grumpy or fussy. Jackson is a 15.2 hand bay gelding. He's mouthy and a bit goofy. Both horses are more-or-less permanently on loan from Mike Paul since June 2001. They were former polo ponies, although you'd never guess from their large size and quiet temperaments.

Our beloved kitties Clara and Fanny disappeared within a few months of each other in the summer of 2002. We suspect that they were eaten by coyotes. Clara was a very bold kitty, probably a bit too fearless. She was always looking for the next adventure. In stark contrast, Fanny was a very cautious kitty, with a bellowing and frequent meow. We miss them both.
