Tea Party Report

By Diana Hsieh @ 10:21 PM

Without further ado... here's the various reports on Objectivist activism at Tax Day Tea Party Protests that I've found:

Colorado
Idaho
Georgia
North Carolina
Ohio
Illinois
Massachusetts
Kansas
Texas
Pennsylvania
New Mexico
California
New York
Florida
Oregon
Kentucky
Arizona
Whew! Amazing! Please post any more reports, pictures, and videos in the comments! And e-mail me if I've screwed something up.

I'd love to see even more activism by Objectivists at the July 4th Tea Party Protests!

We are still trying to get a recording from the radio station that interviewed a member of the Ohio Objectivist Society. I'll let you know if we're successful.

Thanks for posting this. There are a few links I haven't yet explored! We're definitely planning to attend the 4th of July event here in Atlanta (wish we could be in Boston!). I'm going to be organizing a effort here in Atlanta, so if any of you reading this are attending and would like to be involved, please email me directly.

I went to the tea party in Oak Harbor, Washington with about 50 people. I have never been to a protest in my life, but it was great. I've learned two things from this experience: take signs that support your view, and talk to people. It felt kind of strange being stared at by a bunch of old people while only waving a US flag. I think if I take some signs and just talk to people about Objectivism I will fit right in. If there is a 4th of July protest in Oak Harbor I will definitely hand out some of those flyers.

Hi Diana. Sorry if I typed the wrong letter, but Overland Park is in Kansas, not Kentucky. :) It's a suburb of Kansas City.

About a dozen of us in the San Francisco Bay Area participated in the protest in San Francisco. About 700-800 people showed up, and our half dozen Ayn Rand themed posters were very well received. I had a chance to say a few words, quoting Ayn Rand on the moral fight we need to fight for capitalism - and received loud cheers, as well as several positive follow-up comments. We also passed out about 200 Ayn Rand Center flyers, again to a very warm receptive audience. A very worthwhile venue for activism - and great to see people come out in numbers even in one of the most liberal cities in the country.

Hi Diana,

Dianne Durante also had a good description of the New York Tea Party at her blog at Forgotten Delights.com. In Minnesota, about 10 of us went to the St. Paul tea party which drew more than 2,000 people. All of our signs mentioned Ayn Rand and/or Atlas Shrugged on one side and had sayings such as "Capitalists make money, Socialists take money" or "Socialism is immoral" on the other. We had lots of positive comments from people around us. We handed out fliers from ARC. The speakers we listened to were a mixed bag, we didn't have anyone as wonder as John Lewis. But overall it was a very positive experience. A local radio talk show host has his annual tax cut rally scheduled for May 2 and we are signed up as exhibitors for that and there is talk of a July 4 tea party here as well. If you know any Objectivists in Minnesota, send them our way!

I attended the Indianapolis Tea Party and wrote a brief review on my IndyStar reader blog. The link is:

If you click the photos tab you'll see a few pics I took. There's a couple pretty good ones.

Best Regards,

On July 4th we held a Tea Party protest march down Main street in Bozeman, Montana and over 1,000 people marched. My wife, 15-year old daughter daughter and I marched and I had seven signs in the parade carried by myself and others. Five of the 7 signs were painted 19 years ago for a demonstration that Grant Jones and I had organized with other Objectivists in protest of Gorbachev's invitation to speak at Stanford University. Back then, the liberal-dominated locals also went "Obama" over that articulate Soviet Messiah! In Saturday's parade, a sign proudly held by a young boy was selected by the Bozman Daily Chronicle as emblematic of the demonstration. This sign was painted by Grant Jones 19 years ago, and it showed a hammer and sickle with a ban sign painted over it. Its time for Americans to stand up and recognize the poison of these collectivist ideologies before it further destroys this country!
