How Well Do You Perceive Colors?

By Paul Hsieh @ 1:33 PM

You can test your hue discrimination accuracy here. A perfect score is zero.

Good epistemology requires percepts as well as concepts!

Zero for me! It said that I have perfect color vision! I'm not surprised since I work with colors for a living.

I scored an 8. Also, my errors seem to be restricted to the far right hand side of the spectrum.

Of course, it is also possible that my errors were due to how my monitor reproduces color. I hear some are better at accurately reproducing hue than others.

7 here. I've used the x-rite device to calibrate monitors but haven't used it on this machine.

I got a 19 which was apparently better than average. I probably submitted the test a bit quicker than I should have too.

15. I won a colouring-in competition when I was five, so I'm disappointed. Must be my varifocals.

Dan G: "4, difficulty with the green transitions" - but not much, it seems. My father suffered from blue-green colour-blindness, which became loudly apparent after my mother asked him to paint the bathroom green and he painted it blue instead.

I scored an 8. I had a wee bit of trouble with blue-green and green-yellow transitions.

Valda, no, not too bad; close enough that I could probably blame my laptop's monitor ;).

There's also a bit of a trick to this based on how the eye discerns different shades. You must focus your eyes just right; two to three juxtaposed units must all be foveated (simultaneously in focus), not switching from one to the other. The retina will amplify the difference (in the absence of color blindness, that is) and the difference will stand out like the proverbial sore thumb. If your monitor/lcd doesn't have the gamut to provide retinally resolvable differences, then this won't work of course.

Whoa, I tried again, determined to focus, and I got a perfect score. I have the feeling that it was a slight fluke because there were a few transitions that I wasn't sure of, but perhaps that's not how it works. Any misorderings popped out even if when they were ordered, they didn't look very different.

I scored 11. Hopefully that's not bad for a 29-year-old male. (Women have a genetic advantage on this test, having a higher ratio of cones to rods.)

80 here. What's worse is I don't think I could be able to tell the difference if someone gave me the tiles arranged perfectly. I am going to take the high road and blame it on my monitor.

114 for me the first time, 54 the second time.

I have red-green color blindness, so I didn't expect to do well.
